Nigel Dixon

Nigel was born in Southport in July 1933. He was a student at Southport College of Art and at the Royal Academy Schools London where he studied Landscape Painting. He was extremely fortunate to have visiting tutors who included Stanley Spencer, John Nash, William Dring, Ivor Hichens and TS Lowrey.

Towards the end of his studies at the Royal Academy Schools he was awarded the David Murray Scholarship for Landscape Painting. This enabled to him to study and paint landscapes in an area of his choice. He chose Elterwater in the Langdale Valley, Cumbria, his love of the landscape began and has continued to the present day.

The sky has always been an important feature in his work. Living in Southport, the sky predominates in a low landscape; to create a sense of air and space is always important in his work.
